No Points Deduction for Leicester This Season over PSR Charge, Confirms EFL
The English Football League (EFL) has declared that Leicester City will not face a points deduction in this season's Championship over the Premier League charge for alleged breaches of top-flight financial rules.

Leicester, who are caught in a three-way automatic promotion fight with Leeds and Ipswich, earlier attempted to secure an interim injunction to avert any sporting sanctions, including a points deduction, being enacted this season. However, EFL affirmed that its current rules do not endow it with the authority to apply any points penalty as may be demanded by an independent commission formed under Premier League oversight.

A legal decision related to the injunction application emphasized the Premier League's initial desire for an expedited process, keen to resolve the case, including any appeal, before the conclusion of the Championship regular season on May 4.

Diverging from their initial position, the Premier League communicated to the club's lawyers on March 26 that it would no longer push for expedited proceedings because the EFL withdrew its intent to apply any points deduction in the Championship.

Hence, it's highly unlikely for the case to conclude until next season. Any points penalty can only be immediately applicable if Leicester regains their Premier League status by the time the hearing resolves.

Leicester had accused the EFL of conniving with the Premier League to use unlawful means and to prompt or induce a breach of contract by the Premier League. The club remains "extremely disappointed" with the EFL's actions.

The Foxes were charged with infringing the top flight's profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) on March 21, referring to the assessment period concluding with the 2022-23 season when they were still a Premier League participant. Leicester is known to have initiated urgent legal proceedings against both this charge and an EFL transfer embargo. Meanwhile, Leicester City recently proclaimed a loss of £89.7 million for the 2022-23 season.
